I recall hearing about the zipper merge. Impossible to enforce and there are too many people out there that believe that anyone getting in front of them is a horrible offense and is insulting. There are also people who will utilize this opportunity to cut way to the front of the "line" so to speak. I'm really happy I don't have to operate a car anymore... I recall it being a near endless source of frustration .

It really is. My wife and I were driving somewhere the other day and she looked at me and said "you've gotten angrier". I'm guessing she means I am a more annoyed driver than I used to be when I was younger. Like you, I can see both side of the zipper merge thing. I can see why it should work, but why it never will work. Like I said, I'd love to see if automated vehicles at least on the expressway alleviates a lot of these issues.
