RE: Gardening day: April 26 2025

Interesting that thistles are rhizome! I didn't know that! They are a pain though, indeed. Hopefully, since this is the first one ever in this area of our property, perhaps it was from a seed. I didn't see any roots running outward from it. Fingers crossed anyway!

Because we live in berry country, we also have to fight the rogue blackberry vines as well. Not so much in the garden area, but in the forest in small open spaces. If left to their own devices, they can literally devour anything in their path. We've got a cap for our pickup truck, and although I know where it is, you cannot see it anymore! Craziness!

Hopefully, both you and I can at least keep the garden areas under control! Take care and happy gardening @jayna!

Yeah, I never actually see any roots running underground. That's why I don't deal with it. I assume they must be really deep, and I would have to dig up the entire garden to get to them!

I remember the blackberries of the northwest! We would go to thickets to pick them and I remember being completely freaked out by the spiders that loved to nest in them. My parents made do on a very small income with five kids, and so we went everything-picking... blackberries, strawberries, apples, etc. All of it was processed into jam or canned preserves or put in the freezer. But yeah, those blackberry vines can take over everything if they aren't hacked back!
