I know a few years ago if there was a chance of getting upgraded you had to dress like you belonged there lol. Stretch jeans are fine or just wear shorts. I have even witnessed someone change into pajamas and is kind of wishful thinking that you can sleep on a plane.
some of the outfits I see people wearing on airplanes are downright embarrassing to witness. It's like they are in their own private bedroom with the sweats and PJ's but like you say, getting to sleep in a chair is pretty wishful thinking on most people's parts, especially back in steerage where I normally end up sitting.
It is impossible to sleep on a plane in economy and even upper economy. The trick is to move around once the lights are out because there are some sleeping spots to be found. The A380 has a few and why I now look for those flights and select certain seats.
