When I think that these paths are marked by footsteps steeped in history, the history of many people who were here, perhaps fighting battles, it makes the journey so much more exciting. Walls with so much history stretching back centuries, and in every stone I step on, I feel that imposing energy.

Many people have passed through countless places on earth, but the allure that fortresses hold for me is immense. I don’t know if it’s the word itself, fortress, or the history of battles, wars, conflicts, and the defense of a city, but the truth is that seeing those gigantic structures before me, which have survived the passage of years and centuries, even though in many cases they’ve had to be restored, speaks to the character of the place, and I always say that every stone has a story to tell.

Being there is like traveling back in time. I’ve been several times, and each time is a different experience, a journey through something I didn’t see before, a path I didn’t take, a door I missed, or a section that was under repair before and that I can now appreciate. The experience also varies depending on who’s with me. If it’s someone who loves history, the experience will be more intense.
There were a lot of people there that day; it’s already hot, it feels like summer has come early, even if just for a few days, but the rock and brick walls were gleaming. Everyone here knows I love to explore, and this castle has plenty of narrow paths, passageways, and extraordinary sights to see.

One of the things I like best is that if we head to the right, there are paths surrounded by lush greenery, like a park, with many plants and shrubs in different shades of green. This particular path leads to the castle’s café, but taking the time to walk it slowly is very interesting.

Everything is very well maintained, and you can really see the work and care that goes into it. There are also viewing points along the way where you can take in the views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea from different heights. As you climb the path, the views change dramatically.

But my plan wasn’t to go all the way to the café; instead, I took a path that went up perpendicularly and led me to some small stairs among the rocks, which in turn took me to a beautiful gazebo inside the castle itself.

In that inner garden there were more stairs, but I was thinking about the wonder of those rocks that have been there for centuries. The arches above me also seemed amazing to me, arches that give way to passageways, doors leading to other places that seem magical. The whole place is pure magic to me.

I had to take this photo with this view looking down.

But then I had to take this one when I reached the very narrow corridors up top.

And this one looking out over the city. It gives me chills all over again when I look at the photos I took because it’s like going back there over and over, and I love it.

In one room, I saw a scale model of the castle, and it gave me a sense of just how big and wonderful it is. Some people love those luxurious castles where kings and such lived, but I like these ancient structures that tell stories of battles, I’ve always loved them.

There are so many towers and corridors offering different views, not just of the fortress but of the city as well. And time stands still, and I’m transported back to the past; I wonder… what it must have been like down there.

And then, from those same corridors with towers, I look down into the castle and see fountains, gardens, it’s amazing.
I’d love to explore this place when no one else is around, that’s impossible, but I can imagine it.

There are things to see even on the ground.

More gardens, more entrances to more lookouts, they’re everywhere.

I took another random path, which was crossed by several openings with beautiful arches, wall decorations, unusual seats, and best of all, the ceilings. Look at the ceilings, each one is more beautiful than the last. This is a spectacular work of art, which I admire greatly. I never tire of talking about this Alcazaba castle, because it moves me every time I visit.

I couldn’t resist taking pictures of these entrances with such beautifully decorated arches.

And this one is just too beautiful.

One of those exits or entrances, depending on which way we go, led me to this inner garden with a beautiful fountain, and that entrance you see in the background leads to a room with an elevator to go down and exit onto one of the streets surrounding the castle.
Today’s visit ends here, but I’m eager to return and explore a little more. Thank you so much for joining me today; I send you my warmest regards. See you soon.

Wow!! @avdesing, what a good walk through passages and history. The viewpoint is impressive... you can see all of Malaga. The detail of the model is a success, it helps to get a better idea of the structure of the Alcazaba
