Happy Saturday Hivers!
Melon is definitely one of the fruits we really want to grow in our garden! In fact, we’ve already tried growing it. Unfortunately, our first attempt wasn’t successful. The plant survived and even started flowering, and tiny fruits began to form. However, they never grew bigger. Every time a tiny fruit started developing, it would turn yellow and eventually die. This happened several times, and I was really disappointed.

Eventually, I decided to pull out the plant because I thought the problem might be the soil, as there were quite a few stones in it.

But my mom and I didn’t give up! Since we both love melons, we decided to try planting another batch. We really want to grow our own melons, so we’re not ready to give up on this dream just yet.

However, this time, our melon plants have been attacked by different garden pests. There are hairy caterpillars, brown and green grasshoppers, and other insects. It's sad to see the leaves full of holes because of them.

I'm not really comfortable using pesticides to get rid of the pests, so we haven't sprayed anything on the plants. Despite the damage, the plants are still growing. They have even started flowering, although no fruits have formed yet.

I really hope that despite all the damage to their leaves, our melon plants will still produce fruits. My mom and I have already tried growing melons before, and even though our first attempt failed, we're still willing to try again.

For now, we'll just continue taking care of them and hope that those little flowers will soon turn into healthy melons. It would be such a joy to finally harvest our own homegrown melons!
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!

Namaste! I am fond of reading books, watching korean, american and filipino series/movies and I am also fond of gardening. I love listening to different life stories and I am always captivated with the beauty of nature so travel is my escape when life turns into blue. But hey, how could I forget my photography hobby? It is one of the best, so follow me as I will be featuring my experiences of the stuff that I am passionate with.
There is something called Diatomaceous Earth (food-grade) that you could dust onto the leaves and ground around the plants. It will help to keep the bugs away. It is organic and safe to use. If you are not seeing pollinators on the yellow flowers, you may not see any viable fruiting. I hope you can figure it out. Try researching what is organic for your region that you have access to. Best regards to you and your mom.
Thank you for your advice! We'll definitely give it a try because the melon leaves are already in such a sorry state. Hopefully, this will help them recover.
You're most welcome, I hope it works to stop the bugs.

The pest damage is definitely frustrating, but it's encouraging that the plants are still growing and producing flowers. Sending positive vibes for healthy fruit development and a rewarding harvest ahead.
Hopefully, we'll find a solution to this problem and get them healthy again. Thank you.
