I'm envious of your automated watering. I'd like to set that up in my garden too, perhaps this spring.
Have you ever looked into growing courgettes vertically? I keep meaning to try it.

I started last year, but a little late after it had grown half way through and had a C bend at the base. It still produced some fruit afterwards. You can see it here if you zoom in
