Garden Check Day: Harvesting Calamansi for Fresh Juice and Finding Vegetables for Today’s Family Meal

Neutral Simple Nature Photo Collage.png

Today, I spent some time checking our simple backyard garden. With the school year starting on Monday, I wanted to see which vegetables were ready for harvest and what we could prepare for our meals in the coming days. As I walked around, I checked the saluyot, eggplants, cucumber plants, and tomato seedlings growing in pots. Seeing them grow I think that gardening is not only about producing food but also about learning important life lessons.

Our garden is not large, and the plants are not always perfect. Some vegetables are small, while others are still growing. However, I have learned that gardening is not about having the biggest harvest. It is about making use of what we have and appreciating every little blessing that comes from our efforts.

One of the vegetables I am most thankful for is saluyot. It is simple to grow, yet it provides nutritious food for the family. This taught me that even small things can have great value. Sometimes, we look for big solutions when simple and practical ideas can already make a difference in our daily lives. This is my favorite for laswa recipe of vegetables.

As I continued checking the garden, I noticed that weeds had grown taller in some areas. They were competing with the vegetables for nutrients and space. This reminded me of a valuable lesson in life. Just as weeds can prevent plants from growing well, negative habits and distractions can also keep us from reaching our goals. If we want something to grow, whether it is a plant, a dream, or a family, we must take time to care for it and remove what hinders its growth.

I also checked the cucumber plants, one of my daughter's favorites. Seeing her enjoy fresh vegetables encourages me to continue gardening. Nearby, I looked at our calamansi tree because I wanted to make fresh juice for her. It feels rewarding to harvest food that comes directly from our own backyard.

Gardening has taught me patience. Seeds do not grow overnight, and vegetables need regular care before they can be harvested. In the same way, good things in life require time, effort, and consistency. As a mother, I have learned that providing for my family is not always about spending more money. Sometimes, it is about being resourceful, practical, and making the most of what we already have.

For me every plant growing in our backyard reminds me that I need to give more time in growing plants and vegetables for my peace of mind and healthy food for my family. Have a nice day! 💛

Admiring that patience and hardwork, Rona. And I love the soy sauce, calamansi and chili combo. 🤤

Sometimes I think that nothing bothers the grass and weeds, but everything bothers our planted plants.
