Ignorance and a lack of common sense or understanding You should not be surprised how stupid most people are and they would never think that the grapes are imported. We have seasons for fruit here in SA and out of season obviously those items are available for a higher price due to being imported. There are idiots everywhere.

I do think it is important to be a bit protective of your wallet in Thailand and other places but assuming that everything is a ripoff is only going to ruin your own trip. It's just counter-productive and makes people uneasy.
