Exit row or aisle for myself as well. The chances if you are on the aisle is someone may have booked the window which may free up the middle seat. When we travel to the UK I select the A380 because it has a larger seating capacity and the hope depending on the day you travel is the plane is only half full. This has been working out quite well up till now and hope this strategy continues to produce results. Having 2 or 3 seats to yourself is quite the bonus.
the whole row to yourself dream is something that doesn't happen very often. It is much more likely to occur if you get there early and ask for an exit row though. There have been many times that I was the only person in exit. They do tell you that you cant take your shoes off but once the plane gets moving like over an ocean or something the staff' committment to this nonsense usually dwindles out.
