I don't often go to the allotment in January, but it was nice and mild last weekend, around 10 degrees, so we headed over there for a quick family trip to see what was going on.
There were a few plot holders out and about, tidying up or just chatting mainly, there's not a lot you can do in January.....
But it was nice to have a walk about and see what was going on....
Someone got well ahead with these! Not my plot but I'd be happy with this in January already!

Again not mine but an impressive winter array, well - leeks, kale and sprouts, that's pretty much all you can grow in January!

Or is it just normal these days in January?

After the walk about I couldn't help but get stuck in, this doesn't look like much but I estimate it's around 3-4% of the entire plot, so we only have to do this another 20-30 times and that's the plot more or less prepared....
NB this only took about 15 mins, after that the earth was too claggy and I'd had enough.....
It's not that much digging, if we get just a couple nice weekends between now and March and give over just one hour then we can have an easy 20% prepared and then by March we're getting into the window when we can do work on it in the evenings, so it's gonna be no problem getting things ready for the main sowing window from April or even later for many plants...
This trip did inspire me to get ahead of the planting game, so I am going to get some broad beans hopefully before next weekend and get them in some modules ready to sow out in early March....
I'm amazed. We have -15 and huge snowdrifts, in Poland it's -14 and in London it's +10 in January. It's so close.
Totally different weather systems I guess, it's been a very mild jan here!
