RE: Tunnel road proposal for Phuket. Is is a good idea though?

I know that road dude. ONe night I was driving back to Phuket Town from Patong and the people were driving so insane-like over that mountain pass that an oncoming motorbike managed to bash side view mirrors (wing mirrors) with my bike. The glass exploded. When I think about how much wore it could have been, such as our handlebars smashing into one another and my hand getting crushed and then spinning around in the road almost certainly getting thown off the bike and then run over, I wince a little bit.

That road is insane. All the roads in Phuket are insane. I used to drive to Phuket from Krabi and it would take LONGER for me to get the 15km into the island than the 140km from Krabi to get to the north of the island.

I agree with your sentiment that there are far too many people there. I can't stand taht place. It is uniquely beautiful though and I had hoped that by increasing prices that this would curb demand. That has not been the case though and as much as Thailand likes to complain about the diminishing tourism numbers, that island has way too many people on it and in my mind, it is unfixable. Just avoid it.
