Planes are my pick still, but I enjoy flying. You could have almost named this one Planes, Trains, and Automobiles after the old movie! lol

In Europe the train is easier a lot of times, but here in the US the trains just aren't as nice and often uncomfortable. Plus there are very few locations that are short by train, so flying is almost always the only real choice here.

In Europe I have always preferred to travel intercity by train as they are fast, economical and convinient with luggage also. Somehow I am always on the bulky side with my luggage so flights are not easy for me.
As you say US is better by flight, I agree to that. I have been there and I found it exactly the way you mentioned.
