Nara is famous for its Deer park and Todai-ji Temple, both of these are in the same location. You walk through the park to get to the Temple. A lot of people come here more for the Deer park then the Temple. Nara is just an hour away from Osaka and can be done as a day trip. I had a tight itinerary, so we had Nara and Kyoto planned for a day. I must say not at all justified because both these places have so much more to explore then just these few renowned sites. Anyways with time constraint I wanted to see the main things. In Nara it was the Park and the Todaiji Temple. We had left very early in the morning as had many places lined up to visit in Nara and Kyoto.

Arrived in Nara by train and then took a cab to the park. It's 15 minutes straight walk from the station, but I wanted to save every minute and also on energy for the long day ahead, so preferred the cab which dropped us right at the entrance of the park. In the park you will find Deer's roaming around freely, and you can see everyone feeding them. As soon as they see food in your hand, they will come to you, they will first bow to you and then expect the food. How very Japanese, even the Deer's have so much courtesy. Deer'ss in their Shinto tradition are called as messengers of God. You find them in some parts of Japan near the Temple areas. But you cannot feed them everywhere. There are only few authorized places where you can feed them. Nara Deer Park is one of them.

At the park there are vendors who are selling crackers to feed them. As soon as they see you buying from them, they will come to you. While it looks very entertaining but I can tell you, that you need to be very careful, because the moment they see the food they are quick, they will bow and then they will start nudging you with the horns, which sometimes can hurt you also. The younger deer'ss do not bow, they straight away attack you. Once you finish the crackers in your hand, it's best to raise your hands and show them you have nothing more left than they will move away. There are some of them who are very peaceful.

Honestly, I was scared to feed them as some of them were too aggressive. While hubby was feeling I watched from far and took some pictures. It was fun though. They were too many of them and all over the park, also near the Temple.

Here they have seen some school children buying crackers and immediately flocked up.

I did pat one of them sitting peacefully under the tree. If you have no food in your hand, they are peaceful.

It was a fun experience.
