Flaming France Part Deux

After the dubious start our European road trip we finally got to our first accommodation stop of the tour.

If a picture paints a thousand words then here's a bunch to ponder.

The Capfun camping grounds. Near Colmar France.

We booked one of these chalets.

To say it was a tight fit is an understatement, look at this toilet. I had to walk in sideways. Not even space for a reach around lol.
The cupboard beside the toilet is huge in comparison. Question. What idiots designed these chalets. The bedrooms are just as tiny. You literally cannot walk beside the beds unless you are a stick insect.

The grandkids wanted to show us their cooking skills and rustled up an omelette.

It was pretty good and tasty.

In the evening we heard an oompah band and went to investigate. They marched around the park followed by loads of people. The kids loved it.

The location of the campsite is good for walking access to Germany just across the river Rhine into the historic and picturesque town Breisach.

We have been on numerous holidays of this kind over the decades and it is clear that the accommodations have shrunk in size.

Tin foil hat time.

I could quite easily go on a rant about the centralisation and consolidation of once lovely independent camp grounds under the ownership of investment capitalist firms but who cares?

The land is valuable in these locations and it seems to me that this company is using this tactic to landbank these places for some future luxury property's. They buy these camps and run them down until no one wants to go there anymore then apply for a change of use and bingo. They make a killing.

Eurocamp, Homair and half a dozen other holiday camps are now owned by one company...and it shows.

Smallest accommodation possible for maximum profits. These holidays are not cheap.

Whatever, the kids had a blast and will have happy memories of their experience.
