Sunset Cycling Along Kallang River

I believe cycling has truly become part of my lifestyle.

The moment I started pedaling toward places I would not normally visit, something changed in me. Looking back, it really felt like a blessing in disguise when I first decided to rent a bicycle. Then later, when I finally bought my own bicycle, it opened up a whole new hobby for me. Cycling became more than just exercise. It became a way to boost my motivation for photography and travelling, even if my travels are simply within the city I live in.

And honestly, I am happy about that.

I like the fact that I am spending more time outdoors and using my free time in a more meaningful way instead of just sitting on the couch and watching TV. Sometimes, all it takes is one small habit to slowly change the way you experience your days, and for me, that habit has become cycling.

So today, I set out on another little cycling adventure, this time toward the Kallang River. My goal was simple: I wanted to capture the sunset there. The weather was just too good to ignore, and I knew that staying at home would have felt like such a waste.

The light this evening was exactly the kind that makes you want to keep moving until you find the right spot. It had that clear, soft glow that makes the city feel lighter and calmer. As I made my way toward the river, I already had a feeling it was going to be a good ride.

And it really was.

I ended up taking a bunch of photos for my Hive post, and at the same time, I also recorded video clips for my TikTok page. Isn’t that productive? I think it is. And honestly, it is something that became possible because of cycling. It gives me mobility, freedom, and enough flexibility to stop whenever I see a scene worth capturing.

That is probably one of my favorite things about riding around the city. I am not rushing from one destination to another. I am moving slowly enough to notice details, but fast enough to cover more ground than I would on foot. It feels like the perfect balance.

What made this trip especially fun was taking reflection shots on the water. I always enjoy reflections, but today they felt even more satisfying. The surface of the river was calm enough to mirror the buildings, the sky, and the changing colors of the evening light. I spent quite a bit of time just experimenting with angles, trying to see how the reflections changed depending on where I stood.

At one point, I even started throwing small stones into the water just to create ripples and capture the movement on video. There was something simple but enjoyable about that. Watching the still reflection break into soft circles across the water made the scene feel more alive. I think those little details are what make a cycling trip memorable. Not necessarily the distance or the destination, but those small moments of play and curiosity along the way.

I will probably share some of those compiled short clips later, maybe on Snaps and Waves too. But for today, I just wanted to share the photos first.

What I liked most about this ride was how it reminded me again why I enjoy this hobby so much. Cycling gives me a reason to go out, photography gives me a reason to observe, and together they turn even an ordinary afternoon into something I can appreciate more deeply. A stretch of river, a glowing skyline, reflections on water, and a rented or owned bicycle somehow become enough to make the day feel well spent.

That is something I do not take for granted.

I hope you enjoy the photos, and I also hope you are having a great day as well.

See you on my next cycling adventure!

That’s the kind of ride that makes you realize how much better the world feels when you move through it. The way the city lights mirror in that water, almost like the buildings are leaning in, tells you there’s still magic in urban spaces if you just slow down. And the fact that you turned a sunset into both photos and clips? That’s the kind of productive day I wish I had more often. Small adventures like this make the city feel like your playground.
