I was in Washington before Trump but with all the upset going on I'll wait until things calm down a bit before trying to cross the border again. But with all the tariff warfare and bad feelings toward Canada it's hard. It's never a good idead to trouble one's house and our countries are family, despite what some individuals may think. I liked Washington when my son and I visited. I hope things settle down soon.
I hope things settle down soon too, John! I wasn't prepared for how empty the city would be. Granted, it's off-peak tourist season but, if I were to guess, the crowds were about 1/10th of what they were in the National Mall area and the museums. National Guard presence was everywhere—large grounds of them in the streets and the subways. The city was extremely clean though and as we rode the train out from the downtown area the neighborhoods were almost unrecognizable, compared to the early 1990s. What was ghetto then has been completely gentrified and most of the old homes are gone.
