RE: Road Trip to the Columbia River Gorge

I think you guys across the pond are more used to long distance driving than us, well partly America is a lot bigger than UK!

I find as years go by, I'm not such a big fan of driving, even for some shorter distances, but I haven't got to the stage where health is contributing factor yet. It's more of "can't be bothered" sometimes. However, I know if I stop driving now, like two of my sisters have, I won't be able to start again, and I really do need to be mobile in life.

Luckily all my family live local and we can see each other easily without having to drive miles across by the country

It's nice that your family lives locally. One of my sisters lives about 200 miles away, the other lives about 450 miles away, and my brother is about 350 miles away. It would be handy if we were much closer to each other! I think you are right: we in the USA are more accustomed to long drives, especially here in the West.
