Yes, that is a valid question whether the traditional use of horses, pulling kalesas with often more than one person in the heat and exhaust fumes of Manila, is not harmful to the animals' health. I actually rode in one of those carriages myself. They do look beautiful, but I will think about whether I should do it again or not anymore.
