Wow! You really do write a great travel blog! As wonderful as this house is, and as tragic as the love story between Albert and Victoria was, it's hard for me to enjoy the opulence of this house.
I keep thinking of the famines in India that occurred during Victoria's reign. Millions died under the Raj. Grain piled up on the piers of Mumbai (then Bombay) and were exported while the people of India starved to death.
When I see the great estates in the English countryside, I see the silent millions around the world who built those houses. The exploitation, the suffering, and on the other end the grandeur that resulted.
I know...I'm a Debbie Downer. But, once you see you cannot unsee.
You say you are not a 'natural writer'...but this reads as the blog of a truly natural writer. And, yes, I did see the symbol of V and A in the rug.
