RE: Qaqortoq in Greenland

Those little colourful homes look so picturesque photogenic! 📸

Have seen them in travel videos so many times but no-one ever stated the colour coding behind it. That's fascinating and was probably a pretty effective system in simpler times, especially when you are looking for a policeman on foot while being pursued by invading marauders!

It actually gave me some ideas, we have a local drug-dealer and a couple few nosey neighbours on my estate, then there's the guy who committed 30+ burglars, a system may be incredibly useful, shall bring it up at the next residents meeting.

Obviously there is something that makes me a bit squeamish about the idea of the tannery, but it is an industry pre-dating modern times, what one culture finds acceptable or repulsive is very subjective and we all live in cultural glass houses to some degree.

I bet that cometary holds some inter-generational stories, although I find all cemeteries do tbh, I love wandering round, reading the stones and inscriptions of loved ones. I have a pretty 'out there' feeling when I wander round, I wonder if I am the first person in many years to read their name, and feel in some ways that keeps them alive a little more, almost like the chapter isn't fully finished and forgotten.

Looking at those houses against the rocky background or perched atop, I imagine they have an incredibly different vibe in the beautiful sunshine to the bleak depths of midwinter.

Thanks for allowing us to vicariously stowaway in your backpack again, this one is extremely bucketlistish.
