All Souls’ Eve approaches, and against the moonlit landscape of the Monte de las Ánimas (Mount of the Spirits), the ancient, distinctively shaped arches of the San Juan de Duero monastery—with their mysterious geometry—prepare to serve as a stage. If not for the "cosmic horror" described by H.P. Lovecraft, then at least for a psychological terror intense enough to awaken archetypes that have persisted in the collective unconscious since the dawn of time.
The ghosts of literature are on the verge of breaking free from the chains of their hermetic exile. Through texts crafted to chill the spine, they continue to toy with our perceptions, challenging a courage that—much like the virtue once assumed of every soldier in the old military handbooks—is simply expected of us. Some even suggest that the restless spirit of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer stirs within the shadowy solitude of his grave, inviting us, through his legends, to glimpse the horror—part Romantic, part Gothic—that lies on the other side of the mirror.
We are once again on the brink of hearing the agonizing toll of phantom bells, ringing out an urgent alarm that summons two opposing forces: the "monks with spurs"—as Bécquer called the Knights Templar—and the zealous noblemen of Soria, who, bound by the "Twelve Lineages," once clashed with them, reportedly weary of the Templars' extensive prerogatives and privileges. Alonso, son of the Counts of Curiel, and his cousin Beatriz will once more enact this Shakespearean drama. Amidst mysterious lights and spectral processions, they will, for one night, reclaim the mystery veil that shrouds this evocative, charismatic place.
