Cannon Saluting Battery Valletta (Malta) Supported by Airport Parking Community Netherlands

The Saluting Battery is located on one of the best vantage points overlooking the Grand Harbour. It dates back to the same period as the city itself, having been built by the Order of St. John in 1566, according to the designs of the military engineer Francesco Laparelli. Construction of Valletta began after the Great Siege of 1565. During the siege, the Ottomans easily overran the full length of the Valletta promontory, building several powerful siege batteries to keep the Knights of St John and the Maltese holed up within Fort St Angelo and the walled towns of Vittoriosa and Senglea.
