OMG, the Key Lime Doughnut sounds positively droolworthy! Doughnuts are one of my favorite things; they should be their own food group! 😋
Definitely going to try to remember Comadre Panderia, should I ever find myself in Austin. I looked at their menu; the only strange thing to me was that some of their doughnuts are made from "Masa Madre (sourdough)" and I cannot imagine what a sourdough doughnut would taste like. 🤔
I was very impressed with one statement on their menu: "ᴩʀɪᴄᴇꜱ ɪɴᴄʟᴜᴅᴇ ᴀ ʟɪᴠɪɴɢ ᴡᴀɢᴇ ꜰᴏʀ ᴏᴜʀ ꜱᴛᴀꜰꜰ" — what a wonderful thing to include! When we visit restaurants as diners, we seldom think about the wages paid to staff as well as the "overhead" required (location rental, costs of utilities such as power, gas, water, etc.). So, noting that prices contribute to "living wages" for employees is a great thing! Kudos to them! ✌️
Sourdough donuts are actually pretty good. We have a few places around Michigan that make them. They still have that yeasty quality to them, just a bit sour. I actually prefer yeast doughnuts versus cake doughnuts most of the time.
They also had a sign in their place that asked people not to take photos. I don't know if that is because they have trade secrets they want to keep, they are just sick of people taking photos, or given their proximity to the border they don't want any open invites for ICE to visit them!
