Though to be extra safe you could always get a dog that patrols the yard.

Or failing that put up a warning sign about a guard dog on patrol and rig up a motion sensor that sets of a recording of an angry dog barking.

The bit round the side that you're heavy weed matting sounds like so many of the areas around our yard XD I don't have time for gardening but it's part of the reason why we now have a cottage garden, got sick of it looking like a construction zone permanently x_x
