Road trip to Croatia for my mother's birthday

This weekend has been a rainy, fogy days without anything to d outside. Yesterday I had a bit of work left to finish and rest after lunch.

While watching World Rally Championship Monte Carlo 2026 I decided to share a fun quick road trip with my mother almost 2 years ago.

Why so long ago? I got no idea, but time flies.

Today I decided to share a road trip on a bit warmer day. Back in May of 2024 when there was warm enough that I took swimming shorts with me just in case.

Packed up for a trip, without her knowing exactly where we were going. But in the end I did promise her to take her some where on a road trip.

My mother is the type of a person that is always at home, takes care of her cats and her dog. She is always at home, and does take naps when she needs to after taking her meds.

But on the other days when she does feel alright, she does remember days when she did go to places. Not many, but always finds joy in her memories.

Well I don't really but presents, because I look from a point of useful stuff and my mother has them all, except road trip she does still like. Of course for one day only, because she takes care of her little animal kingdom at home.

Her pets make the world for her and make her angry and joyful everyday. While cats sometimes fight outside, because all of them want to eat at the same time. Her little dog beagle is obsessed with food, especially what isn't for her and of course there is plenty of meals and none of the animal is starving, but food makes the world go around.

On 5th of May we started a road trip to Croatia where we started with heavy rain back at home and slowly getting better and better as we passed the border and started seeing the Adriatic sea.

We went to small coastal city Opatija in Croatia, a place my mother has been before, has good memories of it and on top of that I went to pick a friend up as she needed a ride. We all went on a short walk by the sea, met few people, went on a coffee right by the sea.

I took my turn and went in the sea for a minute, it was cold enough that that was ok for me. As long I went in and out on a right spot.

Then we slowly went back to the car, looking back and knowing tonight is another package of snow forecasted, I admit that I do slightly miss my 4x4 Passat we went on a road trip with. Ahh good old days.

While waiting on the food and eating, there was some king of historic rally going on on the road, when a guy stopped to take a break in his beautiful Mercedes.

On out way back we stopped at an old well known restaurant to stop for lunch. As every good road trip needs. Because the highway was unfortunately closed we took a really tiny road, but I found it enjoyable.

When we got my fiend back to her home, me and my mum continued on the highway of course like in the old days we stopped on Trojane for those traditional donuts and got back home safely with all her animals full of joy seeing her (knowing there will be food).

Ended a day with smiles on our faces, new memories made and a day that she will remember.
