Today, let’s take a walk through one of the largest parks in Bangkok — Lumphini Park.
Lumphini Park is a major city park and the true “green lung” of Bangkok. It’s one of the most popular places in the city for walking, sports, and simply slowing down for a moment right in the center of the metropolis.
Park facts:

Our way to the park led across an elevated pedestrian bridge. From there, I managed to take what I think were some great shots of the city street below — Bangkok from above always tells its own story.

Right after we went down toward the lake, my son spotted a rather large monitor lizard. I had just enough time to take a few photos before it disappeared back into the water.
This park is more than just greenery. It feels like a living oasis in the middle of endless traffic and skyscrapers — wide lawns, calm paths, water, and the constant pulse of city life all in one place. Here, you can really feel a different rhythm of Bangkok: relaxed, alive, and incredibly photogenic 🌴✨

One thing that immediately stood out was how many people were running in the park. I genuinely admire people who take care of their health and find time for sports, especially in a big city like this.

The combination of green trees, water, and towering skyscrapers still feels unusual to my eye — and that’s exactly why the photos look so striking.

If you want, you can ride a pedal boat on the lake completely free of charge. My wife and son happily took advantage of that, while I stayed on the pier, photographing them from a distance.

💚 Walking and running:
A circular path of about 2.5 km surrounds the park, very popular with joggers and walkers.
🚴 Cycling:
Allowed only during daytime hours (roughly from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM).
🚣 Pedal boats:
Available on the lake, often shaped like swans — especially pleasant in the morning or late afternoon.
🏋️♂️ Fitness and exercise:
Free outdoor gym equipment, plus yoga, tai chi, and even group aerobics sessions in the evenings.
🪁 Kids’ areas:
Playgrounds and open spaces for children, picnics, and relaxed family time.
📚 Library:
One of Bangkok’s early public libraries is located inside the park, with books in both Thai and English.
🎶 Events:
During cooler months, open-air concerts are held here, including Sunday performances by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
We all really liked this place, and it definitely left a mark in our memories.
My son was especially happy — running through the water splashes, laughing without a care in the world. While he played, I took dozens of photos. Sunlight, water, greenery, and his genuine joy came together and completely made my day.

Thanks for sharing, miss this city already.
One of the first things I did when I arrived in Bkk in 2011 (my first time in Thailand) - visited this park. Lush vegetation, monitor lizards - a tropical fairy tale.....
How I see it in the 2020s: Lumphini Park is the most famous park in Bangkok, but not the best.
Benchakitti Park - the most modern, with long skywalks over ponds full of lotuses and birds, just amazing. I consider this park to be in the top10 of Bangkok attractions.
Bang Krachao - an adventure on bicycles, available at each pier. They also have cool restaurants and cafes there like this
Suanluang Rama 9 Park - a park of botanical garden type, huge, love it.
If you want more: 3 parks at Chatuchak - Queen Sirikit Park, Chatuchak Park, State Railway Park - not just trees, a lot of beauty, details, locations. They make a huge space.
Thank you so much for the information; my wife is already on her laptop. I think we'll try to visit all the places you mentioned. I'm currently posting about Bangkok from our December trip. We're waiting for our child's cast to be removed, then we'll head straight to Bangkok—it was on our January plans, but a silly fracture ruined it.

Glad the info was helpful.
Wishing your son a speedy recovery! I had this with a plaster cast from my foot to the top of my thigh, 30 days, as I remember. I was 6 (probably...) years old. Broke my shin bone.
