Warsaw – the historic part
Hey there my Hive friends and followers!
It felt really good to be posting on my blog again and even better to see some old friends and familiar names stopping by :) Thank you, guys! It was genuinely heartwarming to know that I haven’t been forgotten here, even though I’ve been pretty much inactive on Hive for the past few years.
Anyway, I recently showed you some of the Warsaw’s impressive high rise architecture and today we are going to take a closer look at the historic side of this vibrant Polish metropolis.
I have to say I was really charmed by the Old Town. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side on the day we had set aside to explore this part of the city so I only managed to take a handful of shots and most of them turned out rather gloomy and washed out. The night shots came out better but night photography is where the limitations of my phone usually start to show so they are not exactly top notch either but still pretty decent I would say :)
Well, see you for yourself and feel free to get inspired to visit this extraordinary Polish city yourself. The contrast between the old and the new is truly fascinating in Warsaw :)

Když si člověk představí, že byla Varšava po válce skoro celá postavená znovu, tak musí smeknout.
Přesně tak. U těch mrakodrapů je na první pohled jasné, že jsou nové, ale když jsme se toulali Starým městem, tak se přiznám, že mě ani nenapadlo, že to všechno bylo vlastně postaveno teprve nedávno. Poláci ve svém hlavním městě odvedli neskutečný kus práce.
Jen jsem se divil, že historické centrum je tak malé. I Č. Krumlov má centrum větší. Je poznat, že byl dlouho hlavním městem Krakov :-)
Myślę że warto też porównać to że zdjęciami starej Warszawy, tej przedwojennej i tej z 1945 roku. Widać wtedy ile pracy wymagało osiągnięcie obecnego dtanu
I can only imagine. I know that up to 90% of the city was destroyed during the WWII, similarly to my own Czech hometown of Opava (80%). Considering this, the current appearance of Warsaw is truly admirable.
Paradoxically, this destruction made it possible for a relatively modern city to emerge. I wouldn’t see this as a thank-you to the occupying forces, but, for example, Łódź—which survived the war—has a huge problem with its over-100-year-old tenement buildings.

Welcome back, then! I stopped by to appreciate not just this post but the previous one as well, and I love that you’ve taken so many panoramic shots. I adore big cities, even though I haven't visited many, and I find the mix of architectural styles magical. It was a great idea to share one post featuring those towering skyscrapers and another showing the city's older areas; the contrast between the classic and the modern looks amazing when viewed with such passion. I don't know much about the country, but after seeing these images of Warsaw, I now know I want to visit Poland 😍

Yeah. And it´s even more amazing if you consider that all the historic stuff that you see in the pictures was actually built from scratch after the war...

Bzzz, welcome back after the break! 🐝 The contrast between gloomy daytime shots and sharper night ones actually sounds like it tells its own little story of the day. And that old-vs-new contrast in Warsaw's skyline must be fascinating to wander through. Glad you're buzzing around your blog again! Well, I would say we only scratched the surface as Warsaw is a big city and we only spent a couple of days there but thank you - glad to know you enjoyed the pictures :)
