🎨 Djerbahood – Street Art at the End of Summer

During my September 2023 holidays on Djerba, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most unusual places on the island – Djerbahood. This small district in the village of Erriadh was completely transformed a few years ago into an open-air street art gallery.

Walking through the narrow streets, from the very first moments you get the feeling that you have entered a different world. Traditional architecture – white, low-rise houses with characteristic doors and shutters – has become the backdrop for large-scale murals created by artists from all over the world. Every wall tells a different story, and every turn of the street brings a new surprise.

September turned out to be the perfect time for such a visit. The heat was no longer as intense as in the middle of summer, and the number of tourists was noticeably lower. This made it possible to stop calmly at individual artworks, take photos, and simply absorb the atmosphere of the place without rush or crowds.

What particularly stands out in Djerbahood is the diversity of styles. From realistic portraits, through geometric forms, to abstract compositions and calligraphy inspired by Arab culture. Despite this variety, the whole project feels surprisingly coherent and fits very well into the local character of the village.

Djerbahood is not only a tourist attraction, but also an example of how art can revive a space and give it new meaning without destroying local identity. For me, it was one of the more interesting and inspiring visits during my stay on Djerba.
