A photographic tale of two days.

Friday and Saturday couldn't have been more different. Weather wise, that is. Friday was incredibly windy, and although the meter said -4°C, it felt like -15°C. At least for my fingers, while I was waiting for the perfect constellation of wind channels to blow the snow over the edges at the road. Luckily, almost no car came around. For good reason.

As of Saturday, you can read all about that (and see a few more pictures) in this post - that won the 1st prize in the Worldmapping community! Made the day even more awesome.

I didn't edit any of the pictures, as the cellphone program does an incredibly job already in the moment of taking the picture. I actually tried to compete with the Auto-Mode of the camera, using my little photography skills in the pro-mode, but soon gave up. Impossible in Friday, due to the temperatures - I barely could press the "snap" button. On Saturday, I realized that I wasn't as good as the app. So I returned to automatic.

Snow Ridge

At the entrance to the little village where my mom lives. I took one picture out of almost the same angle on both days:

I tried to get the snow haze, and I got a little much of it. That gust pushed it everywhere. Wasn't nice. Looks kind of cool. Maybe I'll B/W this one.

This one is around 2m behind the first one. It's impressive how much impact the wind had.

Friday

The spray of snow is all around!

I like the composition of this one, with the "new" sprouts bending in the wind and the old oak in the back.

From the other side it was a lot easier to photograph the snow spray. Equally cold, though.

Saturday

The wind had formed the most wonderful snow sculptures.

I went out around the same time of the day, but Saturday had way more light. I used this picture in the Worldmappin post.

This is one of my favorites. I got the angle just right to have the light all inside the little snow cave. This picture was used in this post: https://peakd.com/hive-168869/@beelzael/turning-off-events

The Tree Ridge

Friday

The old oak was one of my favorite motives. For one, because I remember it from my child days. For two, because the sun tends to go down right behind it when - making the most amazing pictures, as you'll see.

The ridge itself is a little longer, with more trees. The ugly bio gas plant is right next to it, so one has to walk out into the field to get better shots.

Saturday

Thanks for staying until now. These are the best pictures, in my opinion, so I wanted to save them for those who really appreciate and endure. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Explosion & Implosion

More than the oak.

Looks a bit different when it's not grey and windy and cold and ugh, doesn't it?

The sky really had those colors. It was impressive.

Bonus Pictures

Four planes, all flying in different directions.

I loved this one. A version of it is featured in the other post, including mom and Lily. But this one, like that? So calm. So beautiful.

Mom went ahead to take pictures I think, but first she just stood there and admired.

See that face of complete and utter happiness? That's me. I can't even describe how happy I was that afternoon.

That's it. I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for reading/looking. Or is there a specific verb for "looking at photos"? Watching is for videos I think, something in movement. If you know, let me know!

As always, any feedback and especially tips and tricks are very welcome! As long as it's not AI generated content or comment spamming... 😅

Thank you for stopping by!

All pictures are taken by myself with a Motorola Edge 60 Pro and I reserve the copyright - but you're welcome to ask if you'd like to use one of the pics!

Maybe the word contemplation is the most appropriate when talking about looking at photographs. Because it's not just about seeing, it's about delighting in what is observed. Excellent images, my friend!

Thank you! So it would be "thank you for reading and contemplating". I like that, since contemplation is something being lost more and more in our hyper-fast societies. And I'm glad that you enjoyed the images!

When nature creates art for our eyes, all we can do is watch and appreciate the moment. Wonderful images. Greetings, @beelzael

Thank you! And I agree completely - nature is so divine that even a beginner like me can take beautiful pictures.

I'd use 'viewing'.

Also a good one. More neutral. "Contemplating" was suggested, which I like better, but not sure if everyone really contemplates.

0E-8 CASHMAP

It's not 'also a good one', it's the correct one! Thanks for reading and contemplating? No, that won't do at all. It's offensive to my sensibilities.:)

A cold morning to you☺️ thnaks for sharing your nice photos

Thank you! I'm back in Ecuador now, so the mornings are less cold.

You have some very interesting snow formations here, mother nature is the biggest and best artist :)

Yeah she's awesome. Makes the photography easy. But I'm sure that there are some techniques to make the most of it. One day I'll hopefully get into that.

oh my goodness! You really do have talent! This one is definitely my favourite:

I was going to say for the first one, no no don't black and white it - that gust, and the light, really set a scene. And then the light show just got better! Then it wasn't the light at all, it was the trees! Oof, I could feel my cheeks ruddy with cold.

Sure, 'viewing', but perhaps I do like 'contemplating' in 'view' of the comments below. Informally, you could say 'checking out' my photos.

Thank you 🥰 honestly, nature makes it easy most of the time. I will get deeper into it though, to see if there are parts that I can improve to get the most out of her magnificence.

I could say "Thank you for reading and viewing! I hope my photos were worthy of some contemplation!"

"Checking out" feels a little too colloquial to me, just like you say. Reminds me of the 90s hip hop scene...

Beautiful photograph. My favorite part was the sunset, and I really enjoyed watching it.

Thank you! And yes, that was a great scene. I really enjoyed being around there while that was going on.

What a little Sun can do. Not only for us. Usually we - well I - get into a positive mode. But also to photographs. Although I do like the cloudy/grey still images as well, a lot. Didn't you pee on some of those overly yellow ones? Sun or Pee, which is it... Or both? 😆

Congrats on the win over at Worldmappin' last weekend

Did you and your fam made it whole back to Ecuador? More sh*t to airliners? KLM perhaps? Schiphol maybe?

Rant Alert: Wasn't following the local politicians too much but found out yesterday our city council didn't say a lot when gazillion people where super badly informed when all the shizzle happened with snow and delayed flights. While the partially own the airport.

0E-8 CASHMAP

No, no pee-yellow in there! Though we did see some - made my dogs, presumably. If Lily was a boy, I'd totally taught how to write the name in the snow.

We had a good trip, no problems at all - KLM is the best Airline to travel to Ecuador, at least of those I've tried. Schiphol was easy as well, not much snow left and warmer temperatures helped.

It's a shame that the city didn't react properly. A good management can go a long way there for the reputation of the city and the airport.
