My Actifit Report Card: November 5 2026

(edited)

Hello hi greetings! I hope wherever you are in this world, you’re not having a downright horrible time. In a perfect world, I would hope you’d be having the best day of your life, but that seems pretty unrealistic. If the good outweighs the bad, well, then, I’m happy for you!

Making the trip back up the hill from Portland yesterday was a bit chaotic- by only my own fault. I kicked off the day by walking 9 miles that I could have easily traversed in a much more convenient method but… I mean yeah. I apparently like to make things difficult on myself.

Of course, I was welcomed at the end of my journey by an entirely different environment. Although it was dark, I could see a faint outline of the looming volcano and could tell it was white. Snow had certainly happened in my absence, and that is very exciting. Of course, the town was wet, cold and gloomy- somehow even more deserted than when I left.

I decided I am pulling the trigger on moving to Portland for a bit while I figure some life stuff. The prioritization scale has changed significantly in my brain over the last few months, and I know that living in the van in this isolated ass town.. well, I know myself well enough to know that I’m not gonna get anything important done in my current situation.

I’ll get more into that another time, but this is Actifit gosh darn it, so I only mention it to say my days wandering around Hood pre-winter are limited. A couple of weeks from now, we will probably be in full-blown winter.. and I will be here nearly every day, but the days of hiking around the national forest without snow are diminishing. So, I decided to go see where the snow line was.

After cleaning the van while waiting for my phone to charge, I set off north. The rain gave way and it was actually pretty warm- so I figured the snow line must be pretty high. Especially because the ground was relatively dry as I set out.. and for the first mile or so. It must have snowed a shit load while I was gone, judging by how white the volcano is.. but the lower part of the natural monstrosity is oddly dry. That is to say, I was taken by surprise when I looked over and started seeing snow in the grass, despite my dry path.

I was looking for a specific log, as weird as that sounds. Silly snowboarder brain. I never found out if there was enough snow to hit it, as I underestimated how far it was and I started to let anxiety win me over and wanted to get moving on the Portland “move”. And as I say that, I realize that I have no idea what I mean by that. Anxiety causes me to always need to be in the right place, “getting ready”- even if that doesn’t mean anything. All I really did was check some fluid levels on the van before taking off.

The trip west was nice, warm and relaxing. I have grown quite fond of Portland, and am starting to understand the confusing-ass geography of this wonderful place. My goal with pretty much anywhere I live is to leave feeling like I have a full understanding of the area. When I lived in Seattle, I walked every square inch of street within the city limits- a more difficult task than it sounds. I hope to do the same thing in Portland before whatever is next.. a significantly easier task than Seattle. Happy Thursday y’all!
