My Actifit Report Card: July 31 2026

Today, I could walk more than 10k steps after weeks of being sick and taking proper rest. And I’m so happy I could do that after being weak for weeks. When the monsoon in this part of the Himalayas started, I got sick. It all started with fever, cough and weakness, which did go away after taking medicines.

Later, one day I got an unusual fever all of a sudden, and I felt so tired. I didn’t get up from the bed that day and spent most of the day just sleeping or curled up inside a blanket. Soon it was not just fever; I started feeling dizzy, I vomited whatever I ate, and it was really really bad.

The worst part is that I live in the mountains now, where the medical facilities are so far away. So, I first went to the primary health centre nearby, and the doctor who consulted me dismissed my case, saying I’m just making this up. His only suggestion was that I might have anxiety!

I requested him to do the blood tests at least, and he just wrote whatever I asked him to test. These blood tests are not available there, and I had to go to another hospital the next day, which is far from where I live.

Even the doctor there was so rude, and he said I don’t have any problem. I remember coming back home crying that day because I knew something was terribly wrong. Slowly, I started feeling lost. When I say lost, I literally got into a confused state. I didn’t really understand where I was, what I was doing there and so on…

After three days, I went to another hospital, and I finally got a proper consultation. The moment they saw me, the doctor mentioned I had jaundice since my eyes looked so yellow. Upon the blood tests, it was confirmed I have typhoid as well.

Well, even though it was all pretty bad, I finally had a sigh of relief knowing what’s wrong.

I started medications and allowed my body to rest and heal. I had lost a lot of weight in just 2 days. I couldn’t even stand the smell of food, any food.

Plus, the dizziness made it impossible for me to walk outside my house. I was not confident enough to walk at all. Slowly, the vomiting stopped. I could eat something. And everything started to get better.

It took time and a lot of medicines, but I feel much better now. I started walking outside my house yesterday. I could walk 6k steps yesterday, which felt like a great achievement after everything I went through.

And today, walking 10k steps felt like crossing another milestone.

When it comes to catching all these diseases, I had to do a lot of digging for the source. The conclusion I have is that the water I use for drinking and cooking. It comes from the tank I have installed, and it hasn’t been cleaned for a while. And the water after the rains is mixed with a lot of other things. That might be the reason.

During this time, I felt like I should’ve paid more attention to the suggestions of the locals. Most of them take home drinking water from a spring here in a can. I always felt the water sources here were so pure and natural; I never felt the need to do this. But, little did I know, monsoon changes everything. I should’ve been extra careful with the water.

Well, the first year is all about learning things, right? I just learned so many lessons from this incident. It might take a few weeks to a month to completely recover from this situation, but I’m happy with the progress.

What I miss the most is exploring these mountains when it looks so green.

So many waterfalls and streams come alive during this season, and I miss being able to hike up the mountains.

I hope everything gets better soon, and I will try my best to be healthy again!
