This morning we left Merimbula.
Our accommodation had the best views we've had on this entire trip.
We had a 180 degree view from a wrap around balcony and could see beaches in both directions, with mountains in the background.
It was a hassle to get the car in and out, and Brad found the running to be annoying as heck, but the space, the views and the natural light were amazing.
As he said to me the other day:
I guess you can't have all the things.
...
I had a pre-booked coaching session with a long-time client at 10 am.
Highly inconvenient as we needed to check out at 10, but I love her and wanted to keep it, so Brad and I figured out how I could coach her IN the car.
I parked up in a corner of a car park near the tiny airport. I jerry-rigged a tiny office. Then, with her knowing full well what I was doing, coached my very willing client on Zoom, on fairly important and difficult "stuff".
It was awesome; the real, necessary, flexible, messiness of life.
Made possible by not only my willingness to risk doing something different but also Brad's willingness to go for a walk and give me full use of the car for 40 minutes.
...
With a late start, we finally left Merimbula just before 11 am.
We did a drive through the regional town of Bega (with a loo break for the woman who wants two coffees every morning).
We continued on smaller roads through smaller towns, passing through a mountain pass that was foggier than anything else we'd seen on the whole trip.

He carefully drove through it until we reached the Snowy Mountains town of Cooma.
We had Wagyu beef burgers for lunch with more chips (fries) than a person really needs.
We made good use of the centrally located public toilets before I drove to Bredbo. It was only 25 ish minutes but it gave Brad a break from all the driving.
We continued heading north.
North towards home, where we haven't been now for more than six weeks.
We're still 1,200 km away, but we're closer than we've been in ages.
Before arriving at our final housesit for this trip, we drove through wide, open farmland with expansive, cloud-filled, blue skies.

The views were such a dramatic contrast to the misty mountains with giant trees from only an hour or two before.
This is certainly one of the most incredible things about a trip as big as this: there is so much contrast.
I could do an entire post just on this theme alone. Perhaps I will.
But nowz now it's time for bed. We have a parkrun to go to in the morning 🌄

Way to get it done with the car office and the time crunch. It helps surely they are a long time client. Even though you have enjoyed yur trip, I bet you are ready to get home.
Actually, I'm not ready to go home. I don't really miss it. I'd prefer to keep travelling, just slower. But with the sharp spike in fuel prices, we're going to need to keep heading home regardless.
sorry for the fuel prices. You can thank our orange oompa loompa for that.

Your story is a beautiful testament to what it means to live with purpose and flexibility. In a world that often demands perfection, you embrace ‘real and necessary disorder’, demonstrating that true freedom isn’t about having it all, but about knowing how to adapt gracefully to whatever comes your way. That coaching session from the car, made possible by Brad’s support, is an act of admirable integrity and service. I’m left with your insight on contrasts: just as the landscape shifts from mist to clarity, life is enriched when we accept that every setback is merely the frame for a spectacular view. Thank you for reminding us that being ‘closer to home’ is, above all, a state of inner gratitude.
