RUINS – ST. GEORGE CHURCH, FAMAGUSTA

This time there are not the frames from the road. They come from my holiday this year in CYPRUS.

My hotel was located not far from FAMAGUSTA. And to be honest there was not much to do around the hotel itself, so the only bigger town really worth visiting nearby was Famagusta. We decided to go there for a one-day trip by the bus.

The sun was extremely strong that day. Walking through the city in such heat was not easy at all. However we managed to visit a few historical places, including the ruins of ST. GEORGE CHURCH.

The Church of Saint George dates back to the medieval period and is one of the many Gothic structures left in Famagusta. Like many buildings in the city it was heavily damaged over time due to wars, earthquakes and long periods of abandonment. Today, what remains are massive stone walls, arches and open interiors — clear signs of how powerful and impressive this place once was.

Standing inside these ruins, surrounded by broken walls and empty windows, you can truly feel the passage of time.
This is exactly the kind of ruin that tells its story without words.

Tym razem nie są to kadry z trasy. Pochodzą z mojego tegorocznego urlopu na CYPRZE.

Mój hotel był zlokalizowany niedaleko FAMAGUSTY. Szczerze mówiąc, w okolicy samego hotelu nie było zbyt wiele do zrobienia, więc jedynym większym miastem w pobliżu, które naprawdę było warte zobaczenia, okazała się Famagusta. Zdecydowaliśmy się wybrać tam na jednodniową wycieczkę autobusem.

Słońce tego dnia grzało bardzo mocno. Spacerowanie po mieście w takim upale nie należało do najłatwiejszych. Mimo to udało nam się zwiedzić kilka zabytkowych miejsc, w tym ruiny KOŚCIOŁA ŚWIĘTEGO JERZEGO.

Kościół świętego Jerzego pochodzi z okresu średniowiecza i jest jedną z wielu gotyckich budowli, które zachowały się w Famaguscie. Podobnie jak wiele innych obiektów w tym mieście, przez lata był poważnie niszczony — na skutek wojen, trzęsień ziemi oraz długich okresów opuszczenia. Dziś pozostały po nim masywne kamienne mury, łuki oraz otwarte wnętrza, będące wyraźnym świadectwem tego, jak potężne i imponujące było to miejsce w przeszłości.

Stojąc wewnątrz tych ruin, otoczonym zniszczonymi ścianami i pustymi oknami, naprawdę można poczuć upływ czasu.
To właśnie ten rodzaj ruin, które opowiadają swoją historię bez słów.
