Discovering the Diocesan Museum of Imola (Italy)

I think it must have happened to you too: there are often "hidden" treasures not far from home that we would never have thought were so beautiful. This is the case of the Diocesan Museum of Imola, which is located just 40 km from my city.
I visited this museum during one of my last trips out of town and I was very fascinated by it. The guide explained us the history of this place in detail and today I’d like to share the most significant photos with you.

Penso che sarà sicuramente capitato anche a voi. Spesso a poca distanza da casa ci sono dei tesori “nascosti” che mai avremmo pensato essere così belli. È il caso del museo Diocesano di Imola, che si trova a soli 40 km dalla mia città.
Ho visitato questo museo durante una delle mie ultime gite fuori porta e ne sono rimasta affascinata. La guida ci ha spiegato nei dettagli la storia di questo luogo e oggi voglio condividere con voi le foto più significative.

The museum is located inside a majestic building called Palazzo Vescovile, in the historic center of Imola. Almost two millennia of history of religion, culture and beauty are contained here.
It was founded in 1962 but, over the decades, has undergone many renovations. The first thing that struck me was the beauty of the frescoes and the original furnishings. There are around twenty rooms, each dedicated to a specific theme.
Il museo è situato all’interno di un palazzo maestoso che si chiama Palazzo Vescovile, nel centro storico di Imola. Qui sono racchiusi quasi due millenni di storia della religione, cultura e bellezza.
È stato fondato nel 1962 ma, nel corso dei decenni, ha subito molti rinnovamenti. La prima cosa che mi ha colpito è la bellezza degli affreschi e degli arredi originali. Ci sono circa venti sale, ognuna dedicata a un tema specifico.

The first room houses the Art Gallery, where there are paintings by Italian artists such as "Il Garofalo" and Bartolomeo Cesi. The historical period goes from the Middle Ages to the Baroque.
Continuing the visit, you also come across the room dedicated to applied arts. The museum's flagship is the collection of sacred goldsmithery, with original pieces that belonged to the Popes in the Vatican. There are also liturgical garments embroidered with gold thread.
La prima sala ospita la Pinacoteca, dove sono presenti dipinti di artisti italiani come “Il Garofalo” e Bartolomeo Cesi. Il periodo storico va dal Medioevo fino al Barocco.
Proseguendo nella visita, si incontra anche la stanza dedicata alle arti applicate. Uno dei fiori all’occhiello del museo è la collezione di oreficeria sacra, con pezzi originali appartenuti ai Papi in Vaticano. Ci sono anche dei vestiti liturgici ricamati con filo dorato.

I didn't know about this museum before, but I would definitely recommend a visit to anyone who is near the Emilia-Romagna region. A few hours are enough to immerse yourself in the past of diocesan life!

Non conoscevo prima d’ora questo museo, ma consiglierei sicuramente una visita a chi si trovasse nei pressi della regione Emilia-Romagna. Bastano poche ore per immergersi nel passato della vita diocesana!
