Hello to everyone in this community, craft lovers, especially those who love recycling! I was thinking about making thank-you cards for my customers at the bazaars, and after thinking about it for a bit, it occurred to me that the best thing to do was make bookmarks. I had previously made some for my sister with Kraft paper, and I was quite pleased with how they turned out. However, unlike those projects where I used drawings, this time I decided to use collage, since I had some magazines lying around and I'm feeling creative in that area (not to mention it would have taken me longer if I'd tried drawing, haha).

The first thing I did was cut out the words and phrases that caught my eye from the magazines. Then, I started going through them to see if I could put them into sentences. It was a fun process, because I felt like I was putting together a puzzle, haha. To make sure I didn't forget them, I wrote them down. I didn't need to have the whole sentence cut out; just one or two words were enough, and then I filled in the rest with a marker. For the "base" of the bookmark, I used construction paper, cutting out rectangles that were 6cm x 20cm.

Since I already had the phrases written on paper, the process was much easier. Basically, I glued the cut-out words on with white glue first, and then I wrote the rest in pencil to complete the sentences, just to avoid mistakes, haha. I think it was a good decision not to use cut-out words for everything, since the workspace was very small and it would have ended up looking cluttered. In addition, I also glued on some figures or images that complemented the message, as decoration.

Once that was done, I used the markers. I outlined the words I had previously written in pencil with black ink, and then used the colored markers to add some more decoration.

I could have left them as they were, but they seemed too plain. So, I decided to glue small pieces of fabric to the edges, and for that, I used liquid silicone, which is a stronger adhesive for this type of material. I let the fabric dry and then applied a coat of water-based gloss to protect the paper a bit. Although, they would also look great using contact paper or even laminating them! They would look fantastic laminated! Maybe I'll make them that way in the future.

Finally, I decided to add a strip to the top of each bookmark so they could be found more easily. I had thought about using yarn (I have several colors in my workshop), but since I didn't have any where I was, well... I had to improvise. So, I ended up using strips of fabric, which I braided. Very carefully, I made a small opening in the cardstock and threaded the braids through it. Finally, I glued a small piece of cardstock to the back of the bookmarks to secure the braids and give them some firmness. As you can imagine, I used craft glue for this step.

And just like that, the bookmarks were ready! 📚✨ I was only going to make a few, but I got so inspired that I ended up making a dozen. The best part is that I even had some words left over to use on future bookmarks or for any collage I want to make.

As you can see, it's an easy, quick, and cute project that makes a great gift for a book lover. We can even personalize them by adding the person's name or things that remind us of them. At the bazaar, a customer told me, "I don't read, but I want one"... and that confirmed they turned out well, haha. ¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad, amantes de las manualidades, sobre todo del reciclaje! Estaba pensando en realizar unas tarjetas de agradecimiento para mis compradores durante mi asistencia a bazares y luego de pensar un poco, se me ocurrió que lo mejor, era hacer unos marca libros. Anteriormente, había realizado unos para mi hermana con papel Kraft y el resultado me gustó bastante. Sólo que a diferencia de en esos casos, que hice dibujos, en esta ocasión pensé en utilizar la técnica de collage, ya que tenía algunas revistas y ando creativa en ese aspecto (sin mencionar que me iba a tardar más si me ponía a hacer dibujos jaja).

Lo primero que hice, fue recortar las palabras y frases que más me llamasen la atención de las revistas. Luego, comencé a revisar las mismas y ver si podía armar oraciones. Fue un proceso divertido, pues me sentía como armando un rompecabezas jaja Para que no se me olvidaran, las iba anotando. No era necesario tener toda la frase en recortes, bastaba con una que otra palabra y luego, completar el resto a marcador. En el caso de la "base" del marca libros, utilicé cartulina escolar, recortando unos rectángulos de 6cmx20cm.

Como ya tenía las frases escritas en papel, se me hizo más sencillo el proceso. Básicamente pegué con pegamento blanco primero las palabras que tenía recortadas y las que hacían falta para completar la oración, las escribía primero con lápiz, para no equivocarme jaja. Creo que fue una buena decisión no hacerlo todo con palabras recortadas, ya que el espacio de trabajo era muy pequeño y acabaría viéndose "abarrotado". Adicional a ello, también pegué algunas figuras o imágenes que fueran a la par con el mensaje, a modo de decoración.

Una vez hecho esto, utilicé los marcadores. Delineé con color negro, las palabras que anteriormente había escrito con lápiz y con los marcadores de colores, me encargué de decorar un poco más.

Pude haberlos dejado así, pero se me hacían simples. Por lo que, se me ocurrió pegarle trocitos de telas en los bordes y para ello, utilicé silicón líquido, el cual es un pegamento de mayor fijación para éste tipo de material. Dejé que secara la tela y seguido, les coloqué una capa de brillo a base de agua, con la finalidad de proteger un poco el papel. Aunque, también quedaría genial usar papel Contac o de plano, plastificarlo ¡Se verían fenomenal plastificados! Tal vez en un futuro, pueda hacerlos.

Para terminar, se me ocurrió colocarles alguna tira en la parte superior, con la finalidad de que pudiesen ser localizados más rápido. Había pensado en usar estambre para ello (en mi taller tengo varios de colores), pero como no tenía nada de eso en dónde me encuentro, pues.. tocaba improvisar. De ese modo, acabé utilizando tiras de tela con las cuales, hice unas trenzas. Con mucho cuidado, hice una pequeña abertura en la cartulina y por allí, introduje las trenzas. Finalmente, les pegué un trocito de cartulina en la parte trasera de los marca libros, para fijar las trenzas y darle firmeza. Como es de imaginarse, usé el silicón frío para éste paso.

Y de esta forma, los marca libros, estuvieron listos 📚✨ Iba a hacer unos pocos y me inspiré tanto, que acabé realizando la docena. Lo mejor de todo, es que me quedaron algunas palabras para usarlas en próximos marca libros o para cualquier collage que desee realizar.

Como pueden ver, se trata de un proyecto fácil, rápido y lindo que puede servir como un detalle para un amante de la lectura. Inclusive podemos hacerlos más personalizados y colocar el nombre de la persona o las cosas que nos recuerden a la misma. El día del bazar una clienta me dijo: "No leo, pero quiero uno"... y eso me verificó que quedaron bien jaja En fin, ahora, procedo a mostrarles cómo se ven cada uno, junto a la frase, que podrán leer en el pie de cada fotografía 😉
