Taller de cianotipia [ESP/ENG] 🦋

Hoy quiero mostrarles un taller de cianotipia que realizamos el sábado pasado con niños de un voluntariado al que asisto.

La cianotipia es una técnica fotográfica antigua que permite crear impresiones en un característico tono azul. Desde hace tiempo tenía el deseo de aprender esta técnica artesanal y, ahora que he tenido la oportunidad, me emociona poder compartirla con ustedes.

Today I want to show you a cyanotype workshop that we did last Saturday with children from a volunteer that I attend.

Cyanotype is an ancient photographic technique that allows you to create prints in a characteristic blue tone. For a long time I had the desire to learn this craft technique and, now that I have had the opportunity, I am excited to be able to share it with you.

PROCESO // PROCESS

Lo primero que hicimos fue mezclar en partes iguales citrato férrico amoniacal y ferricianuro potásico. Posteriormente, aplicamos la solución sobre el material, utilizando en este caso papel para acuarela.

The first thing we did was mix equal parts of ammonium ferric citrate and potassium ferricyanide. We then applied the solution to the material, in this case watercolor paper.

Una vez aplicada la mezcla, la dejamos secar en una superficie protegida de la luz solar directa. En nuestro caso, decidimos colgar los papeles en la pared, orientándolos de espaldas al sol.

Once the mixture has been applied, let it dry on a surface protected from direct sunlight. In our case, we decided to hang the papers on the wall, with their backs facing the sun.

Cuando la hoja esté completamente seca, procederemos a colocar sobre ella los materiales que deseamos que queden impresos. En nuestro caso, elegimos utilizar hojas de árboles y flores.

Once the sheet is completely dry, we’ll place the materials we want to imprint onto it. In our case, we chose to use leaves and flowers.

Para asegurar que todo quede bien prensado y no se mueva, colocamos el papel sobre una superficie de madera y, encima, un pedazo de vidrio, el cual fijamos con ganchos para papel.

To make sure everything is pressed flat and stays in place, we place the paper on a wooden surface and top it with a piece of glass, which we secure with paper clips.

Lo ponemos en el sol y esperamos que suceda la magia. El papel se ira oscureciendo poco a poco.

We put it in the sun and wait for the magic to happen. The paper will gradually darken.

Este es el resultado después de estar en el sol unos 15 minutos aproximadamente.

This is the result after spending about 15 minutes in the sun.

En la imagen anterior, se ve un poco amarillento el papel, no? Para que no quede así, lo que debemos hacer es meter el papel en una mezcla de agua con agua oxigenada y así retirarle todo ese color amarillo. Luego de retirarlo procedemos a intensificar el color azul introduciendo el papel en agua normal.

In the picture above, the paper looks a little yellowish, doesn't it? To prevent that from happening, we need to soak the paper in a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide to remove all that yellow color. After removing it, we proceed to intensify the blue color by soaking the paper in plain water.
