¡Mi Camino a la JMJ Seúl 2027! - My Journey to WYD Seoul 2027!

Hay experiencias que no terminan cuando regresas a casa, sino que se quedan contigo y te cambian. Y el Jubileo de los Jóvenes en Roma 2025 fue exactamente eso para mí: un antes y un después.

Caminar por las calles de Roma, cruzar las Puertas Santas en cada basílica, encontrarme con miles de jóvenes que, como yo, estaban buscando algo más… todo eso despertó en mí una alegría y una motivación que no se apagó al volver, sino que creció.

Y hoy ya tiene nombre y destino: Seúl, Corea del Sur. Desde que se anunció que la próxima Jornada Mundial de la Juventud será del 3 al 8 de agosto de 2027 en Seúl, y después de haber vivido una experiencia muy hermosa en Roma supe dentro de mí que tenía que estar allí.

There are experiences that don’t end when you return home, but stay with you and change you. And the 2025 Youth Jubilee in Rome was exactly that for me: a turning point.

Walking through the streets of Rome, passing through the Holy Doors in each basilica, meeting thousands of young people who, like me, were searching for something more… all of that awakened in me a joy and a motivation that didn’t fade when I returned, but grew.

And today it already has a name and a destination: Seoul, South Korea. Ever since it was announced that the next World Youth Day will be held from August 3 to 8, 2027, in Seoul, and after having had such a beautiful experience in Rome, I knew deep down that I had to be there.

En especial porque ya tengo 28 años, y creo que podría ser la última que viva siendo realmente joven (aunque la juventud se lleva por dentro), pero me refiero física y mentalmente joven, sin responsabilidades como una familia propia o hijos. Ya que después de esta se esperaría que la siguiente JMJ sea en 2030.

Además, si Roma fue tan transformador… ¿cómo no querer vivir lo que viene ahora? Pero esta vez hay algo diferente: no solo quiero vivir la experiencia… quiero prepararme (mejor) para ella.

Especially since I’m already 28, and I think this might be the last one I experience while I’m still truly young (even though youth is a state of mind), but I mean young both physically and mentally, without responsibilities like a family of my own or children. Since after this one, the next WYD isn’t expected until 2030.

Besides, if Rome was so transformative… how could I not want to experience what’s coming next? But this time there’s something different: I don’t just want to live the experience… I want to prepare myself (better) for it.

Viajar desde Venezuela no es algo que se improvisa, y este sueño necesita estructura, disciplina… y mucha intención. He empezado a investigar, proyectar, organizarme. Y aunque todavía falta más de un año, sé que este proceso también forma parte del viaje.

💸 El presupuesto
Los vuelos desde Caracas a Asia no son precisamente baratos. Según lo que he estado viendo, un pasaje ida y vuelta puede estar entre $1,900 y $2,500, depende de la escala que hagas, si es en Turquía o si es en España.

Aunque mi meta no es solo llegar, es vivir la experiencia completa sin estrés, por eso tengo un número en mi mente: alrededor de $5,000.

Eso incluye:

• Vuelo ✈️.
• Seguro de viaje.
• Inscripción como peregrino (incluye hospedaje, comida y transporte).
• Gastos dentro de Corea.
• Un posible viaje a algún otro país cercano (Japón, Vietnam, o incluso si hacemos la escala por España y existe la posibilidad de quedarnos unos días).
• Dinero para imprevistos (porque siempre aparecen).

Estoy teniendo mucho cuidado con mis finanzas últimamente para poder invertir / ahorrar inteligentemente y poder lograr el objetivo, evitando sobretodo gastar dinero en cosas innecesarias.

Traveling from Venezuela isn’t something you can just wing, and this dream requires structure, discipline… and a lot of planning. I’ve started researching, making plans, and getting organized. And even though there’s still more than a year to go, I know this process is also part of the journey.

💸 The Budget
Flights from Caracas to Asia aren’t exactly cheap. From what I’ve been seeing, a round-trip ticket can cost between $1,900 and $2,500, depending on where you stop over—whether it’s in Turkey or Spain.

Although my goal isn’t just to get there, but to live the full experience without stress, that’s why I have a number in mind: around $5,000.

That includes:

• Flight ✈️.
• Travel insurance.
• Registration as a pilgrim (includes lodging, food, and transportation).
• Expenses within Korea.
• A possible trip to another nearby country (Japan, Vietnam, or even if we make a layover in Spain and there’s a chance to stay for a few days).
• Money for unexpected expenses (because they always come up).

I’ve been being very careful with my finances lately so I can invest and save wisely and reach my goal, especially by avoiding spending money on unnecessary things.

☀️ Corea en verano: otro nivel - Korea in the Summer: A Whole New Level

Algo que me llamó mucho la atención es el clima, Agosto en Seúl es verano, pero no cualquier verano. Es húmedo, intenso, aunque no solo hace calor, sino que llueve de forma torrencial y repentina, por lo tanto la ropa que lleve debe tener ciertas características.

• Telas ligeras como lino y de secado rápido (dry fit).
• Ropa fresca pero funcional para caminar largas distancias.
• Zapatos cómodos para caminar (sandalias de trekking, deportivos).
• Impermeable, sombrilla.
• Un botiquín, con medicinas varias y también suero en polvo para evitar deshidratarnos.
• Para la vigilia, debo armar una especie de carpa con materiales que sean reflectivos para el sol, para poder protegerme mejor y que no nos pegue el sol directo como en Roma.

Este viaje no empieza en 2027… ya empezó, en cada ahorro mensual, en cada decisión consciente, en cada búsqueda, en cada planificación, porque no se trata solo de llegar a Seúl, sino de aprender de todo este proceso, y si Roma encendió algo en mí, Seúl promete llevarlo aún más lejos.

One thing that really caught my attention was the weather. August in Seoul is summer, but not just any summer. It’s humid and intense—not only is it hot, but it also rains suddenly and torrentially. Therefore, the clothes you wear should have certain features.

• Lightweight fabrics like linen and quick-drying (dry-fit) materials.
• Cool yet functional clothing for walking long distances.
• Comfortable walking shoes (hiking sandals, sneakers).
• Raincoat, umbrella.
• A first-aid kit with various medications and also rehydration powder to prevent dehydration.
• For the vigil, I need to set up a makeshift shelter using materials that reflect the sun, to better protect myself and avoid direct sunlight like in Rome.

This journey doesn’t start in 2027… it’s already begun, in every monthly savings, in every conscious decision, in every search, in every plan, because it’s not just about getting to Seoul, but about learning from this entire process, and if Rome sparked something in me, Seoul promises to take it even further.
