Flagler Beach Pier FlyOver 2026-01-01
So our beach improvement project continues to move forward building our new Pier. The old pier was damaged in a hurricane several years ago and has been closed for use. Now they are in the process of rebuilding.
According to the local channels, the new pier you see is just a construction pier for their heavy equipment. They are still tearing out the old pier and then rebuilding the new pier in the same place, then they will remove the temporary construction pier.
I think this is my favorite shot other than the video. I like the way it shows the name and the two piers sticking out.
Overall was a great day out. I'm thinking of copying others New Year's tradition of a beach walk. What a great way to let go of the old year and bring in the new, just like a new wave bringing in new shells to turn over, let's explore the new year to see what it holds.

I think it'll be at least mid-summer if not fall before completed. They still have to finish ripping the old one out, but it's cool to be close enough to drive by and check progress each week.

Tks. I kept the shot with shadow just for that reason, wondering if others would spot it. It was cool to see it moving around on the sand.
It's the "little things" that make flying even more fun :-)
Is it bad I can't tell which one is the old one and which one is the new one?
Heh, I'm sure that will be more apparent. The old one is the one on the left as you look out towards the ocean. It's much easier to spot the old up close and in person.

Are you putting together a timelapse of the construction as you go?
Thanks and great idea on the timelapse. I had thought about it, but as always time seems to work against me right now. I may do a short one if I'm able to catch them putting the new pier in. It just seems to be so long between visible movements for them right now.
Fair point, it's only really worth it once big changes happen so the difference is notable for the viewer. Waypoints would be great for that too for consistent flight paths over and around the area.
