I almost forgot I had these shots. Scroll to bottom for video. I started on a sunrise mission, but fate decided to call in the fog. I took the liberty of using a couple techniques I picked up from @borniet and others to take advantage of the weather instead of give up. I'm glad I did! Several shots that I'm very pleased with. I took these over a month ago, and just getting some time to post.
Enjoy the views large or full screen for best effect!
Here is the old pier on the left side (viewing from shore), and the temporary long construction pier on the right. Only a few sections of the old pier remain. The final few pieces were removed last week, and construction on the new pier has just begun. More pics to come later as the new pier gets further in construction.
We started our pic journey on this foggy morning taking a shot from the ground. A trick I learned from @borniet and while mine not yet up to his quality of work, I'm starting to pay more attention and practicing the technique. Here is where we started our flight, from the sidewalk next to the parking area.
A nice distant shot of the pier and waves then followed. As we rose up in height, the fog got thicker, making the pier barely visible.
We then gained altitude and was able to peek above the clouds. Just a little after sunrise.
And then back down to the pier for some additional shots.
And then of course if you know me, you know I love to do flying tour videos.
Here is the foggy pier flyover video for your enjoyment.
For those visiting the area, there is a new Compass Margaritaville hotel right across the street from the beach. Excellent food and views!

Nice shots!
Thank you! Appreciate the views and vote!
Nice shots! The one method of photography that really intrigues me is they way they can use perspective to make real world objects look like toys and vice versa. We had ice this morning. Not quite as bad as what you got, but still a bit sloppy!

that's a lot of fog to be the sea!
Yes, it was certainly thick. Most I've seen here in a while. It took until like 11am for it to all burn off.
Great shots. Above and below the fog. The flight around the pier is also interesting. I would be a little worried about the construction machinery.
Thanks. That was actually my first time of trying to fly up blind through the fog. It was simply amazing to see it pop up above the clouds to that sunrise in live mode.
Yes, great warning about the machinery. I did both a pre-flight walk around of the area, and yes was extra careful to avoid the machinery and enable the sensors when close. Only triggered the sensors once, when I was slowly pushing closer on another set of pics.
I have some experience with fog. It's a great feeling to stand down and see what's going on above the clouds :-)
My drone doesn't have sensors. I try to be careful, but I still managed to crash on Saturday. It's on the video in my article today :-)

STOPWho said you can’t fly when there’s fog right? Amazing pictures you got there! Seems like a lovely location as well! And you got the proof that there’s always sun behind the clouds! ;-)
And thanks for the mention btw ;-)

I must say it was really cool when it first popped over the clouds and could see the sun and clear skies above. Then strange to dive back into the blinding thick fog.
A fun experience I'll certainly try again!
