Friends! We've reached castle number 48, and this time I had the "green light" to pilot my drone in the city of Soure. I'm excited because we're getting closer to completing our ultimate goal of visiting all the castles in Portugal. To reach this medieval land, we have to travel north from Porto, possibly for an hour by car, and make a stop in the Coimbra district, which was very important in the defense against the Moors in the 12th century. But what makes this castle so unique, something I haven't seen in others? Let's find out...🗺️🌍
Amigos! llegamos al castillo numero 48 y esta vez tenia "luz verde" para pilotear mi drone en la ciudad de Soure, estoy emocionado porque cada vez mas completamos nuestro objetivo final de conocer los Castillos de Portugal, para llegar a esta tierra medieval debemos ir hacia el norte desde Porto posiblemente una hora en vehiculo, y hacer una parada en el distrito de Coimbra, quien fue muy importante en la proteccion belica contra los Moros en el siglo XII; pero que hace tan peculiar este castillo y que en mi experiencia no vi en otros? descubramos...

I mentioned in the introduction that we have to go towards Porto, but that's just as a reference point since Coimbra is more towards the central-northern area, it's halfway between Lisbon and Porto. You can get here by public transport, but Soure is very isolated, so my recommendation is to visit it if you have rented transport.🗺️🚩
Mencionaba en la introduccion que tenemos que ir en direccion a Porto pero eso es como referencia ya que Coimbra es mas hacia la zona centro-norte, esta a mitad entre lisboa y porto, puedes llegar aqui en transporte publico, pero Soure es muy aislado asi que mi recomendacion es visitarlo si tienes transporte alquilado.🧭🏕️🌄

Soure actually feels more like a small village than a city, because it's so limited! It doesn't have large shopping centers, there's no cinema, only supermarkets, and the nightlife here is almost nonexistent. Therefore, it's not a suitable place to spend a vacation, but it's worth a day trip to visit the nearby attractions, as it's quite interesting and has a very medieval feel.🚩🗺️
En realidad Soure parece mas una villa pequena que una ciudad, porque es limitada! no tiene centro comerciales grandes, no hay cine, solo supermercados, la vida nocturna aqui es casi inexistente, por ello no es un lugar apropiado para pasar unas vacaciones pero si un dia y visitar las cosas mas proximas, porque es interesante ya que es muy medieval.🏰🚙

In my experience as a castle expert, haha! I've never seen a castle at city level. Normally, 98% of them are built on hills because they offer a better field of vision and are harder to invade. But there's no answer online as to why this one wasn't built on higher ground, and my opinion is that the rivers provide a very strategic position, even superior to a hill, since heavy assault troops can't cross rivers, and this castle is protected by water... I think that's the most logical explanation.🚩🌄
En mi experiencia como castillologo jajaja! nunca habia visto un castillo que este a nivel de la ciudad, normalmente el 98% de ellos los construyen en colinas porque tienen mejor campo de vision y son mas dificiles de invadir pero no hay una respuesta en internet del porque este no fue construido en altura, y mi opinion es que los rios confieren una posicion muy estrategica, hasta superior que una colina ya que tropas de asalto pesadas no pueden pasar por rios y este castillo esta blindado por agua... Creo que es lo mas logico.🧭🌍⛲

Otra cosa interesante que nunca habia visto al estado Portugues comprar un castillo jajaja normalmente siempre pertenece al estado porque son de los reyes, o fueron construidos con fines militares pero este de aqui es interesante ya que paso por las manos de dos personajes: (Joao Ramos Faria, Lobo Santiago y Santiago Presado) en la decada de los cuarenta se vende al estado por 60,400 dolares.🗺️🏰

Henrique, para mi la ultima tiene mas sentido porque una gran parte de las fortalezas y castillos de portugal fueron bajo el mando de Henrique el conquistador.⛲🧭
Soure was taken by the Moors in 711 AD and then the advance of the Christian troops towards Soure occurred in the year 1144 at this point the Portuguese troops destroyed the city, until finally in the year 1147 it was definitively taken.🗺️🏰

In the 13th century, Countess Teresa gave the lands of Soure, Leiria to the Templar order for its fortification, protection and maintenance. At that point in history, the Templars occupied the castle as a headquarters. Upon the extinction of the Templars, the castle passed to the Order of Christ in 1319. From that point on, no further armed conflict occurred that led to the use of Soure.🌍📍
En el siglo XIII la condesa Teresa dio las tierras de Soure, Leiria a la orden de los templarios para su fortificacion, proteccion y mantenimiento, en ese punto de la historia los templarios ocuparon el castillo como una cede, en la extincion de los templarios el castillo pasa para la orden de Cristo en 1319 desde ese punto nunca mas ocurrio ningun conflicto belico el cual haya llevado la utilizacion de Soure.🗺️🚩
