TWELVE POSTCARDS FROM THE RENAISSANCE ROME

I'm playing mostly the Dead Space remake these days, but late last night, I felt the need to take a break from the deep space horror, so I took a scenic walk through the streets of Rome, and I also spent some time in a small boat on the Tiber River. It was all virtual, of course; it was an excursion inside the world of the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood game.

I mean, my avatar inside the game is very good at jumping, climbing, and doing all kinds of crazy acrobatic stuff, so I was using the streets only to reach good spots for climbing the houses and palaces, and then spent most of my in-game time wandering across the rooftops.

The detailed reconstruction of the 16th-century city looks amazing from that elevated point of view, so I started taking screenshots like a real tourist takes snapshots with a phone.

After half an hour of casual playing, I noticed that some of the vistas provided by the game look like amazing postcards. That flash of insight is what inspired this post. I decided to wander around the city in search of scenes that could make a perfect postcard.

Here you can see my avatar watching the distant colosseum very early in the morning.

In this postcard screenshot, you can see him posing near the biggest ship I encountered on the river.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is a pretty old game, it was released in 2010, that still looks amazing in its vanilla state, but I needed a bit more flair and sharpness for the postcards to be perfect, so I used only one HD textures mod to enhance the visuals just a bit, without altering the colors and atmosphere of the original game.

When the full moon rises above Rome in this game, it creates a breathtaking atmosphere.

In this screenshot, my avatar is posing among the wildflowers; the plant in question is probably sage. The vegetation in bloom isn't that prominent in the original game; the modded version I'm playing is a bit more colorful in some places. Not in many places. The architecture, which is the main feature of the in-game world, looks mostly the same

The architecture is so beautiful that I often forget to play missions and wander around for hours just observing the details like a tourist would in the real world.

The view from the river is also great for the most part.

Here you can see the ruins of the Roman civilizations surrounded by fields and hamlets.

And that's it, this is the final postcard from Renaissance Rome. The post ends here - THE END.

They really did a great recreation of 16th century Rome didn't they? I remember playing that game although it been several years now. I'll have to dust off the old game and play it every now again, thanks for reminding me about it.

Glad you're having some fun playing some great games! It looks like a blast!
