STREET ART #245 – Urban art in one of the oldest districts in Guayaquil, Ecuador

On a walk up the hilltop neighborhoods of Las Peñas and Santa Ana in Guayaqil, I discoverd beautiful street art. It was not a strenous walk, but it did take my breath away a couple of times. This area is rich in history, as it is the area where Guayaqil was born. This means it dates back more than 400 years. 444 steps took us to the top. On our way we made many stops to enjoy the view and the art painted on houses that seems to cling to the hill.

These murals displays native birds, plants and the cultivation of cocoa. Chocolate tasting is something that should not be missed. Ecuador produces delicious chocolate.

Beautiful paintings. Some of them are small, and some covers the whole wall. On our way to the top we noticed there are many cafe, small shops and restaurants. Since we were there early in the morning, none were open yet.

These paintings are done on the walls of small restaurants. Since we walked the same back to the starting point, we passed the same cafes and restaurants. Now one of them was open. The owner had put two tables outside. We took the only one that wasn't occupied. The second was allready occupied as you can see!

When we were back to where we stated, we desided to check out the historic street called Calle Numa Pompilio Lloma. Here too, we discovered a couple of good murals. I haven't checked out the artists, as I didn't find signatures on all them. These neighborhoods is definitly a place that should be visited, as they do have a lot to offer.
