STREET ART #244 – East side gallery Berlin

This rather long mural is found in Berlin, Germany. The place is East Side Gallery. It is part of the old, preserved wall that once divided Berlin. A little more than a kilometer wall function as an open air art exhibition. The wall itself are an important part of history, but I think the murals is what also attracts lots of people today. The first photo shows the Oberbaumbrücke. This was also here that we started our walk along the wall. We started by crossing the bridge, that has been renovated after the destructions of WWII.

A scene from everyday life in Berlin. The murals shows the bridge, people, that I guess are Berliners who drinks, sits by the river, or seems to be off to somewhere.. ..

In 1989 the wall that divided east from west (Germany) was demolished and people could then cross to what used to be the opposite side. The significanse of the wall makes it an important historical momunment from that time when lots of people died when they tried to cross. But after the revolution that ended the dictatorship in the eastern part of Germany, artists have painted an unknown number of paintings on the wall. This is only one of them.
