Todays tourist parkrun was to complete a parkrun with a repeat word name, Woy Woy.
Towns with repeat word names are known as reduplicated place names or tautological place names which is common in indigenous Australian languages
Other Australian parkruns matching such description are Bongil Bongil, Curl Curl, Mullum Mullum whilst Wagga at Wagga Wagga, Karkarook, Pakapakanthi could be included under the banner of repeat names
My trip involved driving from Redcliffe to Brisbane airport arriving at Newcastle airport, bus to Newcastle interchange then train to Woy Woy
I opted for affordable pub accommodation at Bayview Hotel about 100m walk from Woy Woy railway station for $80 and then an easy 1.2k walk to parkrun
As I performed the course check prior to sunrise, I witnessed a huge flock of Pelicans on a small sand island and lucky for me that showers held off until after I returned to the hotel for my short walk to catch the return train to Newcastle and my return flight home
At the assembly area, I was fortunate to chat with Margie who remembered me from Taree parkrun, Steve and Michael who are all ED's and RD's from Newcastle, Pirrama and Taree
The out and back mainly flat concrete surface course winds along path adjacent to the Brisbane Water and Water is not a typo. I dont recall any other water area beside a parkrun not named brook, canal, creek, dam, lake, stream or tributary
The start and finish location is ideal with ample parking, toilets, shelters, playground, BBQ's and supported by friendly, encouraging vollies Unfortunately I didnt get to Sharpeys Love Shack Coffee Shop with the team as I was on a tight schedule for train/plane connection for return trip and RD duties tomorrow at Des Connor Junior parkrun, Ashgrove, Brisbane
I recommend Woy Woy parkrun for any Brisbane area residents as its easy to get to via public transport from Newcastle airport to interchange and train to Woy Woy capped at $5 per day for adults and $2.50 for seniors combined with JetStar member return fare and hotel accommodation makes for an affordable trip
