Werrington lakes Reserve parkrun was the second half of our New Year’s Day double back in 2020 it was my 46th different event. They had coordinated well with the Penrith lakes parkrun team and the was ample time to travel between the two without having to rush. Lots of the locals had just run between the two which would have been an extra 10 kilometres on top of the 5-kilometre parkruns. We just drove the car but did get some extra mileage just getting from the car parks to the starting line. Werrington is a bit closer to Sydney than Penrith but still considered a western suburb in the Greater Western Sydney Region. The first land grant was back in 1806 when the Governer gave this area to his youngest daughter when she married they built a house and farmed the area. The house still stands today but we did not get a chance to check it out. Before that it was the Gomerrigal-Tongarra Aboriginal people. The medium house price around here is $1.1 million Aud now. Houses used to be cheap this far out of a major city, it must be hard for any young person to get their foot in anywhere.

The course was two laps around the lake and a couple of out and backs on a pretty narrow paved path. The second lap got a bit hectic with the overtaking and passing. Luckily there was plenty of people, so it was easy just to follow someone.
