Cape Gantheaume Con­ser­va­tion Park. One of the best things we have done in a long time. I usually like to have a good understanding of any place we visit before we actually get there. I really think it helps get the best value and experience out of any place. But Kangaroo island was a bit of a last minute add on for this trip. Some where I have heard about but never been. I thought it was just a matter of showing up, find a park and then have a walk and look around.

First up we showed up too early which I started thinking was a waste of the limited time we had but it ended up working in our favor because we meet this guy that was there 100 plus times before. He said the first tour was the best chance of getting up close and personnel with the seals.  Luckily the National parks people allowed us to squeeze on the first tour. It was a small group that walked down onto the beach with a park ranger guiding and telling us what to do and not to do.

The path to the left went directly onto the beach with the ranger $42 Aud per person. You could just opt for the board walk to the viewing platform for $20 which we did as well as it was included with the $42 tour. The viewing platform still gets you pretty close as the seals use it the shelter from the wind. You could also try your luck at one of the surrounding beaches, but we only saw seals the inside the protected seal bay area.

They spend a lot of time lazing about on the beach because they spend up to 3 days at a time, a long way offshore hunting for fish.

The little ones are such cuties. It looks like you were able to get real close. I am suprised the larger ones didn't try to chase you away. Wind looks like it was kicking as welll as the surf.

The big ones were too busy arguing with each other to notice us or just asleep. It was a pretty warm day, but the wind definitely made me take an extra top.
