We have done Mitchelton parkrun twice and it is only about ten kilometres northwest of Brisbane but that is a long way for us living right on the opposite side of town. The course is a flat and fast, out and back course following the Kedron Brook bikeway from the eastern entrance behind Mitchelton Soccer Club. it has been running since the eighth of June 2013.
Kedron Brook was named by a German missionary group in March 1838. It is named after Kidron Valley near Jerusalem. There is another parkrun further downstream in a different suburb on the same path. They both get cancelled after heavy rain and the Brook turns into a massive river. The used to be a massive shopping centre built on the Kedron Brook flood plains but the insurance company made them demolish it after it got flooded too many times.
Mitchelton is named after the Mitchelton family who emigrated 1850s and bought the land in 1875. It was logged, used for farming and is now mostly a housing estate.
They get a pretty good turn out each week, but it is growing all the time. The first time we were where for their 37th event back on the 5/10/2019. The second times was in 2023.
I ran pretty quick the first time we were there.
Then went back to walk a bit more with @consciouscat and one of her friends who were walking their dogs.

So many of our water way are over grow with weeds, all the runoff rainwater from the housing estates seems to have changed the native vegetation.
