Cormorant Bay parkrun, Queensland, Australia.

Cormorant Bay parkrun is a tough little trail about an hour west of Brisbane. It was our first run back after Covid. In Australia parkrun was shut down from March to early December back in 2020. We had it easier restrictions than other parts of the world, but I remember it being a strange time. We still did a lot of hiking and running during covid we just could not do it in groups or very far from home. We did not do many photos at this event because we were people were still blaming people that travelled for spreading illness especially at work. We were even worried about our strava maps showing we might be doing the wrong thing or even pushing the limits of the rules. So, most of the photos are credited to the parkrun volunteer photographers. It was my 56th different event on the banks of Wivenhoe Dam which is the name of both the greater area and also the lake which Cormorant Bay is in the western corner very close the drivable dam wall.

The course starts with a pretty fast gentle downhill but soon changes to some technical trail.

It is a 2-lap course but the second lap is run in reverse which is a nice touch I do not think I have seen that anywhere else to date. I suppose it just makes the loop into an out and back.

Lake Wivenhoe is the largest in Southeast Queensland named after a town in Essex, it is also major water supply for Brisbane. Cormorant Bay is one of 6 recreational areas and used to be the Brisbane River and the Stanley River before the dam wall flood it.
