Bellevue Park Juniors parkrun
There are only five junior parkruns in Australia. We did not get to run Bellevue Park Juniors as we are a bit too old, but did volunteer as marshals. They need lots of marshals because the children are never supposed to be out of sight. We ringed the ovals as the children ran and walked around. Some of their parents were with them, there were a few tears, and some of the children were really fast. It is not that easy to volunteer at junior parkruns in Australia you need a working with children check and there different in each state. I already had one for Queensland because I used to coach a lot of Junior sport when my son was growing up. It is free to get if you're just a volunteer, but you have to pay if you're using it for paid work. This junior event is aim at children from 4 to 14 years old. Under 11 need to be supervised by a responsible adult. The course is only 2 kilometres, but I suppose that a long way if you only have small legs.Β This event is located down on the Gold Coast just over an hour from Brisbane.Β It starts at later time than our usual parkruns and is on Sunday which is helpful so they dont clash. Volunteering at a junior events counts as a stat on the parkrun app. I have heard that in the U.K some people have logged over 1000 vollies already being able to get two credit per week.
They did a warmup which we do not usually do at regular Saturday events

The Bellevue Park course is three laps around the school ovals.

It is interesting that those checks are different in every state. Having the check already from coaching made it much easier to step in and marshal.
