Bass Point Reserve, New South Wales, Australia.

The Illawarra coastline just south of Sydney has some great beaches between all the Industrial industry going on. It is amazing that everywhere we saw had crystal clear water. I was sort of surprised to see a ship gravel loading right next to a nature reserve. I thought the gravel pit might be closed but it still seems to be going strong. There was also a gravel truck haulage road that has had million-dollar housing estate build all around it. They sort of had highway noise barriers try to separate it from all these posh houses. Seems everyone wants to be close to the water.

One of the information sign boards recons this place would have been about 14 kilometres inland during the last ice age.

We walked into the costal nature reverse as far as we could. It was a hot day. Bush Ranger Bay is supposed to have some good snorkelling. We were only at the cove a few minutes when we heard somebody start to panic, one of their friends had fallen a few metres and cut there fore head open on a rock. There was a lot of blood, I was worried because none of us had phone reception, but an off-guard surf life saver knew dialing 000 would still work.

Within about 15 minutes all the emergency service started to show up. My job was stay in the car park and direct them down to the beach where it the person had fallen. It was all a bit of over the top, but it was good to see all the emergency services get into action so quick. We did not stay long after they all showed up as I was sure the patient was being well looked after and was probably more embarrassed about all the fuss. I am sure he would be fine just with a sore head and a good scar story after he got all stitched back up.
